Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before we talk

If your question is specific to your systems or data, send it to us and we’ll answer directly.

What kind of organisations do you work with?

We work with organisations that need reliable reporting but don’t have a full data team, including SACCOs and microfinance institutions, distributors and retailers, NGOs, and growing companies.

What should I bring to the first call?

A rough list of the systems you use, a report or decision that is difficult today, and an idea of who needs the numbers. Please don’t email personal or confidential records before we agree how they will be shared and protected.

Do we need to replace our current software?

Usually not. We first look at what you already use and whether it can provide the data needed. A new tool is only recommended when the current setup cannot reasonably meet the need.

How do projects start?

We often begin with a one-to-two-week data audit. It maps the sources, reporting process and gaps, then gives you a written set of priorities and estimates. Some smaller projects can start with a focused discovery instead.

How much does a project cost?

Cost depends on the data sources, quality, reporting needs and operating environment. After an initial conversation, we can suggest a fixed-scope audit or define a small first project and provide an estimate before work begins.

How long does a project take?

It depends on the number of systems, access arrangements and how quickly requirements can be confirmed. We agree the scope, milestones and dependencies in writing before implementation.

Who owns the code and data?

Our working principle is that clients retain control of their data and receive the project materials agreed in the scope. The contract should state repository access, licences, credentials, handover and any third-party costs before work starts.

How do you handle personal or sensitive data?

We agree the purpose, access, security responsibilities, retention and deletion steps before handling project data. We aim to use the minimum data needed and prefer anonymised or synthetic data for demonstrations. See our privacy and data handling page.

Can you work with our existing cloud or reporting tools?

Often, yes. We commonly work with PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, Power BI, Looker Studio, Metabase and Apache Superset. We’ll confirm fit and any licensing or hosting costs during scoping.

What if we only need advice?

You can start with an audit or a conversation about a specific reporting problem. The written findings are useful on their own; you decide whether to implement them with us or your own team.
